Making Time for Russell

Russell adores his little sister but I find that he's acting out in other ways that show he knows that the family dynamics have changed: he trys to talk over me when I'm on a phone call (he used to NEVER do this) and pesters me (i.e. hit) when I am trying to feed Camille- as he knows I'm not going to jump up and discipline him immediately. Grrr. He's had ample discipline lately and we'll preserver but I also want to make sure that I am giving him special time during the day that is interactive and not just co-existent.

One thing Russell loves to do is help with the baking. He can already operate the stand-mixer and follows directions closely when I show him how to scoop ingredients. Today we made chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. Yes, they tasted as good as they sound! The apron Russell is wearing was a take-home party gift from another child's birthday party. It was nice to have some positive time with Russell instead of feeling impatient with him and worn out by repeated warnings. I wonder how families with so many children function??

Ah, Hillary...love that you have TWO kids to balance. God is good.

However, yes, the discipline fun has begun! Not sure if it would help Russell when you're nursing, but some moms gave me some ideas for doing a box of stuff that only comes out when you're nursing - so that it seems special - things that Russell would enjoy and that would keep him occupied. Just an idea, if it helps!

Owen loves the stand mixer, too! Unfortunately, now Ian does as well so we have to do side by side mixing and taking turns - so fun!

I had some of the cookies courtesy of the bag you sent home with Julie! They ARE as good as they sound. =) The perfect balance of texture between a cookie and pumpkin bread.

btw, impressed you are baking this early. I don't think I even went in the kitchen the first 6 weeks. Paul even had to get my water for me because I was so sleep deprived!

Look at how big he is!

And looks so proud, too.

Cute pic, Hillary! I hope little Russell will adjust to the new dynamic soon. P.S. I LOVE your mixer! Totally jealous. :)

any hints would be awesome.

I already feel guilty for being on bed rest and not participating in church and choir, soccer, school, pretend play.

He has been so good with all the pink presents coming in for the baby.

People say, Hannah has so much what can I get her. Honestly I say nothing. Think of something for the big brother if you must get something.

I dont know how I am going to juggle both. It's been almost six years with Bug. Just us. It should be interesting.

Camille is beautiful! Congratulations on her arrival. You were on my mind many times over the last several months. Praying that all would go well. I'm so thankful that she has come safely!

What you describe about Russel's behavior is like a mirror image of Liam's when Libby came. He still struggles, more some days than others. I have also found that quality time with him when I can helps so much.
