Maybe there are miracles?

So, we're still up in the air, both emotionally speaking and in the decision-making process. We saw two specialists today and they contradicted each other's findings.

Doctor A) Concluded that the pregnancy was indeed a 'cornual pregnancy' that would indeed rupture my uterus within a few days. We left the ultrasound room very shaken but determined to move ahead with the recommended surgery. He had called my OB and said my OB wanted to talk with us.

We went to see my OB and he admitted that with the odds of a cornual pregnancy being 1 in 2500 he had not seen one (he's delivered probably a few thousand babies... no exaggeration) and wanted us to see another specialist for another opinion. The surgery recommended would not be a simple D&C but a more invasive, risky procedure that would have to be preformed by an oncological surgeon.

So, off we went to see Doctor B. She did an ultrasound and said that she just wasn't convinced that the pregnancy was cornual, and although the myometrium was thin, the pregnancy was inside my uterus and not on the fallopian tube border, therefore no chance of uterine rupture.

This day has been a roller coaster for us, needless to say. We want to believe Doctor B. 150% but we still are realistic of the risks and my OB will refer us to two different specialists at Stanford and possibly UCSF before coming to any firm conclusion.

Thank-you for your prayers. We know that we are far from a confidently, healthy pregnancy, and we need the discernment of the doctors to give us a clear, affirmative directive. Uterine rupture is risky in certain terms but the surgery is not a simple procedure.

I'm so sorry Hillary, I wish there was something I could do ... I will at least pray.

Glad you got more opinions and that you have a positive to balance out all the negative you've been hearing. I am still praying for your miracle. God works through doctors too.

I wish I was closer to help out, but I can tell from comments from local friends that there are others willing and able to help with Russell and anything else you may need. We are all pulling for you.

Hi Hillary. I came over from Photogrl's blog and am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. I had an interstitial (a.k.a.) cornual ectopic pregnancy in November 2005. At first it was misdiagnosed to be in my uterus, but ultimately they did discover that it was partly in the opening of my right tube and partly in my uterus.

The day they were sure it was cornual they did surgery, as they feared it could rupture at any moment. Initially they tried to get it laproscopically, however it was too big to be successful. So ultimately they went in through my c-section scar (from having my son in 10/03) to remove it. They didn't remove my right tube, but they did tie it off, so it was not longer functional.

After the surgery we had to wait 6 months before we could try again nd then they said that they would never want me to labor again, only have c-sections to protect my uterus. That said, 3 1/2 years later my uterus is doing really well. There is a lot more to the story, but I wanted to let you know that someone else "out here" understands. (((HUGS)))

If you have any questions you can visit my blog or email me at kmbenson75 at yahoo dot com. You mentioned that your Dr. had never seen a cornual for real before. Mine was also my Dr.'s first. I am sure if your Dr. wanted to consult with mine about it, he would be more than willing to discuss it. Let me know if you want his contact info.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping and praying that your pregnancy is not cornual, but if it is you can and will get through this. Hang in there. (((HUGS)))
